  Description: We learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh.  We looked more specifically at Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night".  We then used pieces of tissue paper construction paper to create a landscape.  We used other media, such as oil pastel and crayon, to help create the landscape.  The landscape I made was an underwater ocean landscape. Extension Activity: Students will research the types of plants and animals found in their landscape.  For example if they had an ocean landscape like mine they might research the types of fish or coral found in the ocean.

  Description: Using warm and cool colors, we created a hidden safari.  We drew an animal in blue colored pencil on the paper.  Then, using crayons, we hid the animal with lines and shapes drawn in warm colors.  We also made red tinted safari glasses to use to see our hidden animal. Extension Activity: In groups, students will research an animal they see in their hidden safari.  They will then create a poster about their chosen animal to present to the class.

  Description: We used different media, such as crayon, marker, and oil pastel, to decorate a coffee filter.  We then painted our coffee filter using watercolor paints.  We used this to explore which media resist watercolor.  In this exploration, it was discovered that crayon will resist watercolor while marker will not. Extension Activity: In Language Arts, students will read the book The Dot  by Peter Reynolds.  Students will then journal about what can be learned from the book (ex: blue and yellow make green; a moral or lesson they got from the book).

  Description: We had to go around and take pictures to represent the elements and principles of design. Picture 1: Balance - Two tables and two chairs in the NSU Student Center Picture 2: Contrast - A box and a basket lit up in a dark room; picture taken in black and white Picture 3: Line - A tree on the campus green Picture 4: Shape - A wall with square paneling and wooden art projects utilizing various shapes on it  Picture 5: Emphasis - Styrofoam ball snowmen with the one decorated in red standing out from the white ones

  Description:  We created a foot print to introduce ourselves to the class.  The foot print was to include three different types of media.  On the foot print we were to put symbols that represented us.  The people on the top of my foot print represent my parents and siblings.  The pencil represents my hobbies of drawing and writing.  The cookie sheet represents that I like to bake.  The book represents my love of reading.  The knitting and crocheting needles represent my hobby of knitting and crocheting. Extention Activity:  Students will use their foot prints to measure the length and width of objects in the classroom and use those measurements to find the area.
